Chimney Inspection Boise

Book a chimney inspection when you want the condition of the chimney, not just a cleaning.

That includes the case where you are not sure a sweep is what you need. A fireplace that drafts poorly, a stain near the chimney, or a house you are about to heat for the first time are reasons to start here. If you want the chimney checked on a repeating schedule, say that in the note.

Cleaning removes buildup and an inspection reports condition. A sweep takes out creosote, soot, and debris. An inspection tells you what shape the parts are in. If the flue is dirty and you already know you want it cleaned, the chimney sweep page is the right request. You can book both if you ask for both.

What we look at

We look at the flue for gaps, broken sections, and heavy buildup. Buildup is noted. It is not removed on an inspection-only visit.

We look at the firebox for cracks, loose pieces, and how the opening meets the throat.

We look at the cap. We note whether it is present, whether it sits on the flue, and whether the screen is intact.

We look at the crown, the wash over the top of the stack, for cracks and for gaps where the flue comes through.

We look at the damper. We open it and close it and note if it sticks, fails to seat, or is missing.

We look at the liner. Clay tile, a metal liner, or another liner already in place is described as we find it, including sections that have shifted or opened up.

We look at the smoke chamber, the area above the damper, for shape, open joints, and loose material.

We look at the flashing where the chimney meets the roof and note if it has pulled away or split.

We look at the visible masonry on the stack you can see from the ground or the roof: joints, units, and anything shifted out of line.

Parts we could not see are named as unseen. We do not guess at them.

If the inspection finds a problem

A broken cap, a cracked crown, failed flashing, a damper that does not work, or a liner that is no longer continuous belongs on chimney repair. We describe what we saw and quote the repair separately. We do not begin repair during an inspection unless that repair was already booked.

Where we work

We cover chimney inspections in Boise and nearby towns.

How the visit goes

  1. We look at the fireplace and chimney first and keep the visit to the parts listed above.

  2. We protect the work area. Even an inspection can loosen soot at the firebox. The hearth and the floor in front of it are covered.

  3. We do the booked service. On this page, that service is the inspection. We are not sweeping the flue unless a sweep was booked with it.

  4. We tell you what was found in plain language: what is sound, what is damaged, and what we could not see.
